Vintage Repro in Barbie Pink for Gene or Retro Glam

SOLD  Thanks.  This is a replica of a 50's fashion from the Australian Home Journal that I though was so cute!  (Inspiration pic at end.)  Gene and Liz are both shown modeling this dress.  I like the hat a bit better on Liz because she has a smaller head.   I made it from a bright pink rayon batiste.  The biggest challenge to recreating this dress was figuring out the bodice lining.  The dress has an attached self belt with silver buckle and ruched short sleeves with tiny bows.  Included is a separate matching tulle petticoat to give the hand-hemmed skirt it's fullness.  The picture hat is made from black aida cloth with the edges bound in silk/cotton.  It's adorned with a black silk ribbon tied in a bow with longer streamers.  The dress closes with snaps in the back.  Dress and hat are available for $140 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me at nwickman@chartermi.net if interested.  And here is the beautiful Liz in the dress.

I recently bought this beautiful chaise lounge from Winzerdoll.  It's gorgeous but I don't know how useful it will be for photos because the dolls can't really sit upright on it.  But it was fun to play with.  Since I have very limited room in my house, I'm not sure I'll hang onto it.

Striped Silk Suit for Gene Body

SOLD  Thanks!   I had to take another couple of weeks off from sewing.  I started playing euchre at the local senior center a few weeks ago, and two weeks before Thanksgiving, a superspreader was there and my days of outrunning the 'rona were over.  Thank goodness I had the vaccine in October.  I never had any breathing problems but I still got pretty sick--yes, it was worse than the flu--so, being an immune-compromised person, I hate to think how bad it could have been without the vaccination.  I got pretty dehydrated so Mid Michigan Revive and Restore came to my rescue again.

So I've always loved this piece of striped silk dupioni I've had in my stash for a while, and I had a small scrap of the contrasting tissue silk taffeta.  So a suit was the obvious choice.  This one has princess seams and I used the stripes in different directions to give it more interest.  Of course, I didn't have any buttons to match so I spent an hour making and attaching tiny covered buttons.  I use little jump rings for the buttons and gather little circles of fabric around them.  It's fiddly and I find it a lot easier to do if you can set the jump ring on the fabric with a tiny dot of tacky glue.  But I couldn't do that with this thin fabric without the glue showing through so a few jump rings ended up flying around the room when I couldn't keep hold of them.  The suit jacket and skirt close with snaps.  The suit is fully lined in gray silk/cotton.  I finished the outfit with a little pillbox hat adorned with a bias band and a bow.  The suit and hat are available for $160 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me nwickman@chartermi.net if interested.

Ramie Suit for Retro Glam or Gene

SOLD  Thanks! I love this Liz doll!  I put her in her brunette wig for this outfit.  From the waist up, the suit is inspired by a vintage design (pic at end) but I'm not a fan of a-line skirts.  Go big or go pencil.  The double breasted jacket and skirt are made of a dusty rose ramie print and the collar, cuffs, and hat are a cotton pique. The skirt has a back walking slit and the outfit is fully lined in ivory silk/cotton.  The jacket closes with snaps in the front and has a removable self belt.  I should say that this fits Gene bodied dolls but the head of this doll is smaller so the fit of the hat may not be the same.  The jacket, skirt and hat are available for $150 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me at nwickman@chartermi.net if any questions.

Jamieshow Retro Glam Liz Vintage Repro

I was working on a pretty dress yesterday when the mail lady showed up with this beauty that I preordered months ago.  I was never lucky enough to acquire a Jamieshow Gene doll but the new Retro Glam dolls use the Gene body so the fashions fit.  And is she ever gorgeous.  I decided to make this version of vintage Butterick 9365 because I had this cotton lawn fabric that looked just like the picture.  The dress includes a separate tulle petticoat to give the dress it's fullness.  The belt is also a separate piece.  The little hat is gold cotton with a ruffled flower embellishment finishes off this look.  The dress, hat and petticoat are available for $120 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me at nwickman@chartermi.net.

Coral Satin Vintage Repro for Gene

SOLD  Thanks!  One of my favorite Facebook pages is Xtabay Vintage Clothing.  So this is my dolly version of a dress they had for sale recently.  The original dress was orange-not my favorite color-so mine is a coral instead.  The fabric is silk charmeuse and the matching lining is silk habotai.  I made the overskirt as a separate piece that slips over the dress and closes in the back with a snap.  In fact, I made the overskirt twice.  My first one was too long and too full in the back and it bugged me.  So it got scrapped but I didn't have to remake all the bows at least.  A little tip:  since I needed three bows of the same size, I cut a small piece of cardboard 3/4" wide, made a line down the center, and used that to wrap my tubing around.  I stitched the ends together and then sewed the "knot" around it.  The dress is raglan style and the sleeves have tiny tucks at the bodice edge like the original.  This dress is available for $140 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me at nwickman@chartermi.net if interested.

Vintage Pink Lace Replica for Gene

This week I've created a replica of a cocktail outfit from a vintage fashion catalog.  (Inspiration pic at end.)  This piece of pink lace has been around since I made Barbie clothes for my niece.  She turned 26 two days ago so it's been a while.  I laid it over white tissue silk taffeta.   The dress and coat are both fully lined in white silk/cotton.  It's finished off with a white silk pillbox hat with a rhinestone embellishment.  If you look at the closeup pics of this outfit, you can see something different that I did.  In order to make the lace look like it was appliqued onto the white silk, I did a little decorative stitch in pink thread along the seams.  I think it was pretty effective.  Dress, coat and hat are available for $160 plus $6 shipping in the US.  Email me at nwickman@chartermi.net if interested.
